Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin Hosted Community POWER Bag Packing Party

MIDLAND, TX - The Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin (LCPB) hosted a successful POWER Bag Packing Party on Saturday, August 23, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the West Texas Food Bank. The community came together to pack 1,600 POWER Bags-the most ever assembled at a single event. Each bag was filled with age-appropriate books, reading activities, and educational resources designed to strengthen early childhood literacy across the Permian Basin. These bags will be distributed throughout West Texas through local hospitals, bringing essential learning tools directly into homes where they are needed most.

Each POWER Bag packed helped to:

  • Foster early reading skills and a lifelong love of books in young children
  • Provide families with practical tools and activities to support learning at home
  • Ensure equitable access to literacy resources for underserved children across the region

The packing party united community members of all ages for a meaningful service project. Families, student groups, businesses, and community organizations all participated in helping promote literacy and learning across West Texas.
