Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin Celebrates National Literacy Month with Community Events and Subgrant Opportunities
PERMIAN BASIN - Find the Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin (LCPB) throughout West Texas this September as they celebrate National Literacy Month with events and funding opportunities to support literacy programs.
Events
On September 7, LCPB is partnering with the West Texas Food Bank for a POWER Bag Packing Party from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Midland, where volunteers will pack literacy materials for local hospitals.
On September 13, LCPB will be at Barrio Fest in Fort Stockton from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., handing out free books to children. LCPB believes in the power of reading and wants to inspire excitement for reading among children while also emphasizing the lasting importance of literacy in shaping their futures. LCPB hopes to encourage families to foster a love for reading at home by providing free books.
At the beginning of the month, LCPB, in collaboration with Odessa College, participated in Sensory Night at the Permian Basin Fair. The event, held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., provided free entry to individuals with sensory processing disorders and their families. Designed to be sensory-friendly with reduced lights and music, the event also connected families to local resources, including LCPB's literacy programs, in a calm and accessible setting.
Subgrant Applications
Subgrant applications are open until September 30, offering funding for literacy providers or programs. Current and potential members are encouraged to apply.
