Subgrants
The Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin (LCPB) awards annual subgrants to help
strengthen literacy services across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. These
grants—typically up to $5,000 per organization—support small, often volunteer-run
literacy providers with the resources they need to grow their impact.
What Are LCPB Subgrants?
Our subgrants are designed to build the capacity of local literacy providers by funding essential needs such as:
- Classroom curriculum and learning materials
- Technology and software for instruction
- Staffing or tutoring support
- Other resources that directly improve literacy services
Rather than replacing services, LCPB subgrants expand the reach and sustainability of organizations already serving learners in our communities.
Eligibility
Subgrants are available to literacy organizations within our 22-county service area across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. To apply, organizations must be current LCPB members. Membership provides access to additional benefits, including training, assessments, and networking opportunities.
Recent Funding Highlights
- 2024: 18 projects funded out of 25 applicants, totaling $75,000 in awards
- 2023: 19 projects funded across 21 applications, totaling $82,734 in awards
- 2022: 13 projects funded from 14 applications, totaling $61,920 in awards
This growth shows both the increasing demand for literacy support and the Coalition’s commitment to meeting those needs.
Why Subgrants Matter
When literacy providers have the tools they need, learners gain the skills to succeed in work, school, and life. Subgrants help break down barriers for organizations that may not have access to large-scale funding or fundraising networks—ensuring that vital services continue reaching those who need them most.
2025-2026 Sub-Grant Application
"While we deeply appreciate your ongoing contributions to literacy, previous grant funding does not guarantee future awards. Prior grantee status does not automatically qualify an organization for continued support, as each application is evaluated independently based on current criteria and available resources."
